Direct Instruction
Our literary analysis is grounded in classic and contemporary literary theory, with a particular emphasis on new criticism, structuralism & deconstruction. All interpretation is supplemented with relevant concepts from philosophy, psychology, and sociology. Theories will be made accessible and no background knowledge is required.
Guided & Independent Practice
Interpretation will be broken down into a series of manageable steps, each with feedback and an opportunity to demonstrate mastery. In addition, students will be given a variety of options from traditional literary analysis to intergeneric approaches, combining literature and creative writing. Forums are available for ongoing support and feedback from other students.
